The 16-piece Latin Jazz big band, the Mambo Kings, will delight audiences with their fusion of hypnotic Latin American rhythms and the harmonic complexity of Jazz. Their repertoire is an exciting combination of the best of Jazz with a uniquely Latin twist.
The Mambo Kings pay tribute to the cultural legacy of Latin Jazz masters. Festive attire, a decorative stage, and traditional big band music stands reinforces the mood for an evening dedicated to heritage. Their stage presence evokes and pays homage to the classic appearance and panache of the great Latin bands of the forties and fifties, e.g., Desi Arnaz, Xavier Cugat, and Perez Prado.
Latin rhythmic elements have been a part of Jazz music from its beginnings.
The Mambo Kings continue the long tradition of artistic collaboration between Jazz and Latin musicians.
This special performance highlights the pioneering music of Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie, Mongo Santamaria, and Machito.
